This is Albania, comrades!

Urbex in Albania to relive the recent history of the country, with nights in bunkers, vestiges and symbols of the communist era
Mysterious Albania, so far and so close, often little known and yet rich in a long history as mixed as it is turbulent... After an Ottoman then Nazi and Italian occupation, Albania was led in the aftermath of the Second World War by Enver Hoxha , leader of the local Communist Party. The latter reigned supreme, imposed his totalitarian doxa and undermined freedom of expression. In particular, he led an immense bunkering program, with 170,000 buildings constructed in all regions of Albania, on mountain passes right down to city streets. Presented by the Party as a practical means of preventing the subjugation of Albania to foreign powers, they became the symbol of oppression, intimidation and control over the people. Tossed between dreams of autonomy and the influence of the USSR then China, the Albanians lived dark decades, isolated from the rest of the world and destitute, until the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1991, which domino effect toppled the Albanian regime. Since then, Albania has opened up to the world and is waiting to reveal its wonders to you...
